Hugh Brewster

Hugh Brewster has had twenty-five years of experience with the story of the Titanic and has edited, compiled or written fifteen books about the great liner. In 1985, he collaborated with Robert D. Ballard, the head of the expedition that found the wreck of the Titanic, on a book that would become the international bestseller, The Discovery of the Titanic. In creating this book, Brewster worked with famed Titanic artist, Ken Marschall and historian, Don Lynch. He would later commission them both to create the lavish volume, Titanic: An Illustrated History. This book provided the inspiration for James Cameron’s epic movie, Titanic, and many of the scenes in the film are based on Ken Marschall’s paintings.

Brewster also researched the food that was served on the Titanic, and this was featured in a book entitled Last Dinner on the Titanic. With Ken Marschall, Brewster created a giant cutaway book for children entitled Inside the Titanic. He is also the author of the perennially popular 882 ½ Amazing Answers to All Your Questions About the Titanic. In 1995 he began work on a book about the story behind John Singer Sargent’s well-loved painting, Follow Hugh on Twitter‘Carnation,Lily,Lily, Rose’ which brought him to Broadway to see the gardens in which it was painted. He is now at work on a book entitled Gilded Crossing, an account of the lives of some of the Titanic’s most prominent passengers, including the founder of the Broadway colony, Frank Millet.
