Paul Adrian  Rooke

Paul Adrian Rooke is a distinguished composer, conductor, teacher, pianist and organist. Educated at Bishop’s Stortford College and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge he taught Music for 36 years in secondary schools before retiring in 2002. Since then he has been working as a freelance music editor and originator (someone who uses music software to set music onto computer) particularly for the Elgar Complete Edition and The Rutland Boughton Music Trust. The list of his compositions includes more than 100 pieces of music in all genres, including an opera and two symphonies. Since 1984 he has been Conductor of Hitchin Symphony Orchestra and since 2005 Musical Director of Stevenage Male Voice Choir. He is a fervent champion of English music and has promoted the works of composers such as Elgar, Rutland Boughton, Vaughan Williams, Tippett, Walton, Britten, Arnold, John McCabe and Naresh Sohal as well as the music of younger composers.

Paul was the national Publicity Officer for The Elgar Society from 1996 until 2001 and its International Co-ordinator from 2001 until 2007. In 2006 he became Music Adviser to The Rutland Boughton Music Trust.
