Harriet Snaps up Farncombe prize

When keen photographer Harriet Saker saw there was a photography competition to enter on the Destination Worcestershire web site, she began to look around for potential ‘targets' for entries in the three categories available to her. Amongst other beauty spots, she homed in on Broadway Tower. Harriet from Charlton, near Evesham, has recently started a teacher training course and she takes her photography very seriously.

The three categories for the competition were: landscapes and gardens of Worcestershire; family days out in Worcestershire; and iconic Worcestershire buildings. The overall winner would claim the grand prize of a weekend photography course at Farncombe Estate at Broadway, where he or she would be tutored in the art of digital photography by a professional photographer and enjoy full-board accommodation set within 300-acres of the expansive, privately owned parkland.

Professional photographers from the county - John Anyon from the Worcester News, Ben Dalby from the Worcester Standard and Mike Pollard and Martin Humby, both well known and highly respected freelance photographers based in the county - kindly gave their time for free to select the best ten photographs entered in each of the three categories, before they were loaded on the Destination Worcestershire web site allowing ‘web browsers' to vote online for their favourites.

Harriet Saker was delighted with her win and her prize: "I was naturally pleased but quite shocked to see my photograph amongst the finalists. I had gone back to Broadway Tower several times before I was able to capture the sky I wanted behind it - perhaps my patience has paid off after all!" she said as she accepted her award from Nick Akerman of Farncombe Estate and Andrea Watkins from Destination Worcestershire, outside Foxhill Manor on the Farncombe Estate above Broadway, who have sponsored the competition.
