Play opens in Bristol for writer Crysse

Vampire Nights is a darkly comic double bill featuring 'Love Bites' by Bristol novelist Crysse Morrison. The play will be running 24-29 May at the Alma Tavern Theatre in Bristol.
Crysse is next teaching at Farncombe 3-5 December 2010 "Finding your Writers Voice" - please book well in advance to guarantee a place.

The Midnight Walk is an annual event arranged by Sue Ryder to help raise funds for the care that makes a huge difference to the quality of life to people with challenging and complex life limiting conditions. This year they hope the 10 km Cheltenham walk will raise £70,000 through sponsorship towards the £74 million pounds they need to raise annually to continue their standard of care and support. Congratulations to Farncombe tutors Mary Pearson and Sue Pattinson who took part and have so far raised £720 towards their target of £1000. They hope to raise more from their workshop on Sunday 27th June.

Farncombe jewellery tutor Sara Withers has recently published a new book “The Encyclopedia of Wire Jewellery” – it covers all aspects of wire jewellery making. This includes the very basics, such as a description of the tools required and an exploration of different types of wire through to advanced techniques. In The Encyclopedia of Wire Jewellery, Sara Withers takes the reader through to basic silver smithing techniques which opens up a new range of opportunities for a jewellery maker. You can meet Sara at Art in Action where she will be running 2 workshops for Farncombe 15-18 July.

Dan Evans heads back to Kentucky

Farncombe tutor, Dan Evans is travelling to the USA this June to teach and perform at one of America’s biggest dulcimer festivals, Kentucky Music Week, in historic Bardstown, Kentucky. This will be the third time Dan has worked at this festival and his tenth music trip to the USA overall. As the leading UK exponent on the dulcimer, Dan will work with twenty five other leading players, all teaching their own style and technique of playing at this friendly week-long festival. Dan will return to Farncombe to run his ever popular "Everyone Can Sing" course on 2 weekends later this year.

Children's book comes home at Festival

John Singer Sargent’s 1887 painting of two girls lighting paper lanterns in a garden at twilight has long been one of the artist’s best-loved works. Canadian children’s author Hugh Brewster decided to tell the story behind its creation in a book entitled Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose: The Story of a Painting, (Kids Can Press.) The book was nominated for a 2007 Governor General's Award and selected as one of the best children’s books of the year by the Washington Post. Celebrating the life and work of John Singer Sargent RA, the Broadway Arts Festival will be taking place 11-20 June. Author Hugh Brewster will be presenting a Family Talk at Farncombe on Sunday 13 June. Tickets from £3.50.
