Ever wanted to sing in a gospel choir? Well here’s your chance! Don’t miss this opportunity to spend a weekend improving your vocal skills while creating that special gospel sound and learning to move with the music. We’ll explore a variety of material, ranging from traditional spirituals to pop, soul and funky gospel. At the same time you can learn about vocal technique, harmony singing and the gospel performance style. No music-reading ability required, just a desire to make some noise!
Who will like this course? This course will appeal to singers of all experience levels.
Those who never sung before or haven’t sung for a long time will find Gospel music an accessible way to get started as the music can be learnt by ear. You will also enjoy being part of a large choral sound where you can blend in if you are not a very confident singers and let those around you help you along.
More experienced singers can develop their musicianship skills from this type of harmony singing and can have the opportunity to sing solos, accompanied by the choir.
All participants will enjoy the performance element, specially learning the ‘gospel two-step’ sway technique which is a perfect complement to the infectious groove of the music.
All songs are taught by ear with notation sometimes provided for support. Sometimes, there will just be lyric sheets to follow rather than complete notation.
Please bring plenty of water to drink during sessions as singing for a whole day can be thirsty work! Please also wear comfortable clothes and shoes as there are periods of standing during rehearsals and some movement while singing.
Amateur singers of all experience levels as well as beginners. Also a suitable professional development activity for group singing teachers from schools, colleges, adult community choirs and choral societies.
