Art Day Course - Drawing with Pen & Wash

This is a course aimed at beginners that will introduce them to sketching with waterproof ink and watercolour wash. The students will be shown how to draw and sketch with an ink pen and how to combine this with painting with a watercolour wash. Topics covered include different textures, shading and sketching techniques. Using demonstrations and working from photographs supplied by the tutor, the students will be shown how each technique can be achieved and the tutor will be on hand to give group and individual help and critique. By the end of the course the students will have produced a number of small studies using the exercises learnt during the day.
Materials List for Students:
1 x disposable waterproof pigment ink fibre tip pen size 0.2 or 0.3 (Pilot DR, Edding Profipen or similar).
1 x size 10 or 12 round watercolour brush, sable, nylon or sable/synthetic blend.
Students quality paint (Winsor Newton Cotman or Daler Rowney Aquafine)
1 x tube each of the following colours:
Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna.
1 x white mixing palette (an old china plate will suffice).
1 x pad of 140lb, not surface watercolour paper (spiral bound is preferable but not essential) size 14 x 10 inches.
1 x 2b pencil and eraser.
Tissues and a water container such as a jam jar or similar.
This list is a recommendation only. If the students have tools and materials of their own then they are more than welcome to bring them along.
