John Singer Sargent Study Day

The scope and breadth of Sargent’s work is truly astounding. A brilliant portrait painter who captured not only the features but the character of his sitters, Sargent was also one of the greatest painters of Venice in both oils and watercolours. His Impressionist landscapes and paintings such as ‘Carnation, Lily, Lily Rose’ are as popular today as they were when first exhibited. A charming and musical man, Sargent had a wide circle of friends who included Claude Monet, Henry James, Gustave Faure and Percy Grainger.
This study day examines the man, his paintings and his social circle.
